Treatment - ThrowBack Thursdays
ThrowBack Thursdays is a radio show that is aimed at 18-25 females, the show will be aimed at university students and will begin to air in late September to target the fresher week that it will be commencing for universities all over the country.
The theme of music played on ThrowBack Thursdays will be music from the late 90's early 2000's, this including songs such as 'Miss Independant - Neyo' and 'I need you tonight - Professor Green', these songs will appeal to our target audience again due to these songs having a nostalgic sense as they will have been played when the audience will have been younger.
Currently there is a trend in modern culture to reference styles and media from the late 90's and early 2000's, this being clear in fashion trends being seen this summer such as scrunchies, dungarees and denim skirts, this reinforcing the positive connotations around media from this time period.
The show will air at 9pm - 11pm to enable it to be used as background music for students getting ready to go out and for the beginning of the evening.
The fact that the show will be aired past 9pm means that its post-watershed allowing the throwback songs to have explicit lyrics, this once again will appeal to the target audience due to the 18-25 year olds being used to listening to songs with explicit lyrics due to the common culture of explicit lyrics in most genres.
The slogan of the show will be 'Back to Back Throwbacks', the show will have features such as phone-in competitions that will require the audience to listen to the first few seconds of songs and prizes will include tickets to events such as tramlines or nightclub tickets, this being desirable but still feeding back into Sheffield independent businesses.
Advertisements that will be featured on the show will be shops and businesses such as COW - and independant vintage shop in Sheffield city centre, Wellies - a cafe in the city centre next to the Sheffield Hallam student union.
Meadowhall events will also be promoted, in particular 'student nights' and 'job fairs' this being lucrative to the audience as this will appeal to their interests as well as feeding back into the Sheffield business scene.
